自1999年起,他先后组织了年度中国陶艺家代表团赴美,参加美国陶瓷艺术教育协会的年会,组织美国陶艺家代表团赴中国交流访问,及举办了诸多中美陶艺交流展览。他还担任过加州三多贝克大学主办的2004,2006和2008三届大鱼小壶国际茶壶竟赛展的评委。周光真还曾于2001年和2005年先后获陶艺工具肌理模板和透气行陶艺工作板专利两项。
Guangzhen Zhou -- Biography
Guangzhen Zhou, born in Shanghai China in 1953, is a ceramic artist and writer, a member of Member of International Academy of Ceramics, member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Art, member of the Association of California Clay and Glass Artists, the director of ClayGround-a ceramic art studio, Chinese Ceramic Art Council, USA, and Chinese Clay Art Corperation in San Jose, California, and the chief editor of E-News “Chinese Clay Art”.
Came to the United State in 1989, Mr. Zhou received his Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and his Master of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University, San Jose, California. He has had many solo and group exhibitions in both the United States and China. Also, his work was featured many magazines and books.
Since 1992, Mr. Zhou has had over fifty articles published in both Chinese and English in art magazines, such as Jiangsu Art Monthly, Fine Arts in China and Decorative Arts (Mainland China) and Artist, and Ceramic Art magazines (Taiwan), on Ceramic Monthly and the NCECA Journals. He published a book American Ceramic Artists Today, that is the first Chinese book introduced fifty top American clay artists in 1998, and published Chinese Ceramic Cultrual Sites-A Travlor’s Handbook in 2004. He was the edting committee member of the book of Works by Ceramic Artists from Around the World.
Meanwhile, Mr. Zhou has presented lectures that introduced "American contemporary ceramic arts" in '96 China Art Expo. Beijing, Yixing Ceramic Artists' Association, Shanghai University-Fine Art College, Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, Central Academy of Fine Arts-Beijing, Central Academy of Arts and Design-Beijing, China National Academy of Fine Arts-Hangzhou, and he was the presenter of 14th California Sculpture Conference at Davis, California.
Since 1999, Mr. Zhou has been led the annual American Ceramic Artists Delegation for the Chinese ceramic tours, and has been led annual Chinese Delegation of Ceramic Artists attended NCECA conference. Also, he orgniazed “the Chinese Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition-Denver 2000”, and “American Ceramic Art Works in Shanghai Art Expo 2000”, organized “Yixing International Ceramic Art Symposium 2001”, and organized the Western Ceramic Artists Delegation participated “Foshan Ceramics Expoxtion, China 2002” and International Ceramic Art Conference , Yixing 2005”. He was the juror of Big Fish, Small Pot, International Teapot Conpitition fo r both 2004 and 2006.
Artist's Statement
I believe that an artist should be talented in creating many kinds of things. An art work should have some kind of visual power, surrealistic shock and a sense of humor.
