- Jin Xia is a professional artist from China who now resides in California. She graduated with honors from Shanghai University’s Institute of Fine Arts in 1988. Afterwards she instructed students in painting for over ten years in the Institute. She has also explored and created art works in many different styles and mediums, painting in oils, watercolors, ink, washings and lacquer. In addition, she showed her range of talent by producing engravings, carvings and decorative paintings. Her masterpieces of art are exhibited and collected in the National Fine Art Gallery of China as well as in several famous art galleries around the world where they have received many honors and awards. Recently her art works were exhibited in the Nan Hai Arts Center in Millbrae and the 23rd Annual National Juried Show in the Coastal Arts League Gallery & Museum Half Moon Bay. Xia Jin is a member of the Chinese Artist Society. She has also taught and nurtured many young and talented students.

Contemporary Art, Community & Public Space: Present Tense Panel Discussion Part 1
With the great success of the Center’s biennial exhibition, Present Tense 2009: Chinese Character, in collaboration with Kearny Street Workshop, we would like to engage the community in a casual, lively, and fun panel discussion regarding the relationship between contemporary art, community building, and public space as a venue for the arts. Among other topics, we will discuss the impact on artists, the community audience, and how exhibitions like Present Tense can bring new and provocative energy into the public scene.

Present Tense Biennial 2009 would like to thank the following organizations for collaborative support:
