- Beili Liu is a Chinese-American artist whose creative work has been exhibited and published extensively both nationally and internationally. She has held solo and group exhibitions, lectures, and presentations in Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, California, Chicago, Bulgaria, Finland, Australia and China. Most recently, she presented a large-scale installation exhibition Lure/惑，at CCC in San Francisco. Beili Liu has held artist fellowship at Art Farm, NE, Djerassi Foundation, CA, and Fiskars Artist Residency, Finland. Liu received her MFA from the University of Michigan, and is an assistant professor at University of Texas in Austin.

Contemporary Art, Community & Public Space: Present Tense Panel Discussion Part 1
With the great success of the Center’s biennial exhibition, Present Tense 2009: Chinese Character, in collaboration with Kearny Street Workshop, we would like to engage the community in a casual, lively, and fun panel discussion regarding the relationship between contemporary art, community building, and public space as a venue for the arts. Among other topics, we will discuss the impact on artists, the community audience, and how exhibitions like Present Tense can bring new and provocative energy into the public scene.
