Aileen Chong was born in Long Island, New York in 1983. She received her Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts at Hofstra University in 2004. In 2006, she went to San Francisco to pursue her graduate studies and received her Master of Fine Arts in Non-Figurative Painting at the Academy of Art University in December 2008. Throughout the course of her thesis, she studied with Jenny Balisle and Paul Lorenz. Her ethnicity as a Chinese Peruvian has been a major influence in her work. Both of her parents were born in Peru, her mother in Chepen and father in Chiclayo. Aileen’s grandmother on her mother’s side was born in Pueblo Nuevo, Peru and grandfather in Canton, China while her grandparents on her father’s side were both born in Canton, China. Currently, she is living in San Francisco.
